I agree for the most part with Hans.
It can get really spooky if you've been up skiing all day and it's been dumping pretty hard. The plows can't keep up and the road down Big/Little Cottonwood will be completely packed. One thing Hans forgot to mention was
that sometimes they only allow cars with chains or 4wd up big/little Cottonwood canyons. When that happens I just hop over to Park City...
Before you go and drop a load on tires I'd wait for the snow and see how your exiting tires are. Saabs are pretty good in the snow and I've been able to get through some pretty nasty storms with my Firestone Firehawk M+S
