I think the driving habits you're suggesting I change are to not drive at all. I like to think I drive fairly responsibly (meaning I leave 2-3 seconds travel time between myself and other cars) and when I do speed it's not more than 10mph over the limit. What happened this morning was a car in an adjacent lane nearly hit another car, swerved and locked his brakes and skidded to a stop in my lane. I started braking moderately and then panic-braked when it looked like we might collide. Sorry, but good driving habits cannot perfectly protect anyone from other drivers' errors or mechanical problems.

Maybe what I'm looking for is beyond the physical capabilities of the car; I'm not looking to lock up the brakes (and thanks to ABS I don't think its a major concern), but if putting larger rotors/brake pads on the car reduces the efficacy of the ABS system then I won't do it.
