Do you have this estimate in writing?
Can you do any of the work yourself, armed with a good manual and decent tools?
This makes the car look like something worth about $300. Even if you (sometime) have to pay to have the transmission done, should be in the neighborhood of $2000, plus whatever to seal up the engine when everything is out.
If you are at all handy, front caliper, rotors and pads aren't hard.
And, you could possibly find another shop for quotes.
