I am coming from the opposite side of the fence - I picked up an 89 SPG that had been sitting for 6 months in the back lot of a local home-boy used car lot - paid $1000.USD! Why? Has slightly cheesed side panel, bad paint on hood, and missing headliner - the body is undinged, original nice paint, 0 rust, and it runs - can't beat that! Now the motor and trans are a mystery quantity rite now, since it has only been (illegally) driven home & parked/unregistered. But after a little more evaluation, besides a hood repaint and a little interior work, it is pretty cherry. I plan on seriously considering dropping the motor/trans from my 86 900T in it, at least temporarily, and then make it my daily driver for awhile, until I can have the 89 motor/tranny gone over in my basement.
These are things that, admittedly, someone has to be kinda willing to bust knuckles over, but that's the point, isn't it? If you're not willing to get down w/ your car & do most stuff yerself, yer always gonna get hosed - for me, I can't afford to get robbed. And you get a certain satisfaction doing it yerself........try it!
But this car - over 4k? for starters, and needing all that work - keep looking! Good builder 900T's and SPG's are out there!
