I would strongly recommend a Bentley manual, it takes you through engine removal step-by-step with illustrations. You will need a clutch spacer tool if this is a manual transmission. The suspension a-arms must be held up with spacer tools also, old brake pads work well.
For a novice working alone, 6 hours until ready to pull if everything goes well, experienced half that, a Saab pro with power tools could probably have it out in 90 minutes.
Check out my auto-manual pages linked below, there is a engine removal section based on the 8-valve engine, should give you a rough idea of what is involved.
