I guess I'm blindfolding the ABS and beating it w/ a big stick. It's not very fair;)
Fresh from the factory the ABS system is great but after use I think problems do occur. Sure if the car is maintained, parts are replaced, and the lines are flushed there shouldn't be a problem. But if they aren't, I think the ABS can cause more damage than good. Take into consideration how the ABS reacts to bad rear calipers, and there are many instance of bad rear calipers.
A good amount of people have told me from experience that they had this weird loss of control feeling in their car (these were all ABS situations..). Now, maybe it could be the rearend lifting up like Justin described or it could be a faulty rear caliper like 85sled's and the ABS is trying to compensate. If you just lock one rear caliper up, the car pulls. Now if you actuate the lock up on only one rear caliper, you'll get a violent fishtail. It could be from dirt in the cylinder too, but still have the same end effect. A violent fishtail is what occured in my girlfriend's car slamming her into a concrete wall. There was no turn, she was just driving straight but since only one caliper was effected the fishtail occurred. Yes, this was all in result of a bad rear caliper, but it also would not of occurred if there wasn't ABS.
