Remember that ABS in a c900 and I all -'92 (and maybe beyond) 9000s is a three-channel system. The front calipers can be actuated indepedently, but the rears act in tandem (hence only one brake line...). If one wheel back there isn't spinning, it reduces braking force on both of them. I've personally never had any caliper on a Saab go bad (did lose one parking brake on my '87 SPG) but that may have something to do with living in dry, sunny California. Who knows. At any rate, I can't imagine a braking system in a Saab resulting in a wild fishtail, unless perchance the lightened-rear-end scenario occurred and the driver overcompensated. Me, I just tried to keep her straight by reverse steering, but realized once the car was facing completely the wrong way that I probably didn't handle the situation quite correctly. Heh. Never forget the sound of the rear end pounding into the mud at 50+mph then feeling the car pull second full 180 degree spin at a 45-degree-to-the-ground angle. Fun.... but not as much fun as locating and collecting all the SPG panels the next morning, some of which were 50 years before the car and some which were 50 yards after.
Anyway, the key to functioning brakes, at least on a Saab, is flushing the system out every two years. No one does it, but it is *essential* on cars with ABS since that relatively primative system *can* be quickly and easily fouled or damaged with unclean fluid. I'm terrible about doing the job, 'cause it's a PITA, but after this conversation methinks I'll do the SPG this weekend.. :)
