Unless you are dealing with a really old Saab dealership, I seriously doubt whoever Steve is originated that term... it's been circling in the Saab dealers since the late '80s - every Saab mechanic I've ever dealt with knew the name, and of course everyone on the 'net does too... :)

As for the welding, be sure you specifically ask for someone who can and will weld ALUMINUM - many shops won't touch it, because you need special equipment to do so. It isn't like welding steel or iron. I'd personally recommend a call to the local Saab dealer as they may have a local shop they deal with for similar repairs... I know that my Saab dealer has been invaluable for recommendations like this (even though they suck for everything else... :).
