Double clutching (with a throttle blip in the middle) certainly reduces the wear on the synchros. In fact, prior to synchros it was the correct technique. BUT THIS IS WHY WE HAVE THEM. The B-W synchro design seems like the only good part on my transmission. When I had to rebuild my transmission at 125 kmi, the synchros were in fantastic shape (still sharp). I replaced them only because they were cheap ($25 each). What was really wrong with the transmission was the pinion bearings and layshaft.
So, at least in my case, double clutching would not be a benifit. It would only lengthen the longest lasting portion of the transmission.
