Happy to share my thread with SJS.
Refresh - Right before Xmas, replaced O2 sensor I suspected was cause of poor, loping, low idle/killing when warm and occassional, intermittent, always went out CE light.
Reinstalled O2 twice to ensure I did it right - as confident as I can be that I did good connections, even removed insulating cover to ensure no breaks.
Since then: CE light almost always on - goes out rarely, comes back in 2 - 3 min. Pulled codes - codes point to lean air/fuel mix (but it doesn't act lean - runs great!)or O2 pre-heater.
Car idles at 1500 rpm when cold, 1000 when warm, occasionally dropping to 900 rpm, every once in awhile oscillating between 1000 - 1500 rpm.
Doesn't always slow down when in gear and release gas pedal - seems to want to maintain the speed it's at (2nd, 3rd, low rpms). Again - overall car runs pretty damn good.
AMM passes burn off test. I cleaned/sprayed AIC and throttle body early fall. No vaccuum leaks I can find.
I know I need to do electrical tests on O2 sensor - I don't have a multimeter and don't really know how to do this - I hope to try this soon.
My logic points to something with the O2 sensor, as that is the major variable, but I don't know for sure without testing the voltage.
I was going to keep my mouth shut on this til I got a multi and tested, but I was poking around under the hood tonite, remembered about the oil filler cap supposedly letting unmetered air in, and when there was no change in idle, wondered if that was a clue it was something that had failed and gone into a default or limp home setting, therefore causing the idle RPMs I get plus CE light.
Thanks for listening (so to speak) and for great advice!
