Tyler, I feel for you. I've got the same problem...also on a 1990. It seems that this is quite a common problem with the old body style. Do a search on "frame rust". There are others who have had the same problem.
I like you am pretty well dissapointed by this...My car is otherwise beautiful....however my mechanic says that it can be fixed. He has had SAAB's since before I was born so I do trust him. Others here have had it fixed also. The key is to find and fix it early. I'm not really crazy about the fact that my frame is rusting but at this point I am not parting with the car so I will have it fixed and post the outcome.
I believe a competent body shop will be able to fix it. Think about the older classic cars on the road. Rust is nothing new to cars so....I'm sure someone has fixed it before.
Where do you live? I live in Mass. so if you are close I can tell you where I end up getting it fixed. I'm debating right now between my mechanic and a body shop. On one hand I've got my trusted mechanic but...they are just that...mechanics not body shop guys, even though he says they can fix it and have in the past on many cars.
Any opinions for me?
