if you can. When I sent my 900 into a local indie two years ago to change the alternator bushings, he wanted to change the a/c hose on the theory that if he had to move the aged part it would leak, to which I said did not need to be done. But he talked me into it and charged it with R12, I needed a top off anyway.

Then the new hose broke at the crimp a few days later and the indie replaced the hose again, but as he was out of R12, without asking he converted to R134 rather than wait for a delivery of the old stuff (he was doing the work for free so why do it right). Now my compressor makes a high pitched whining sound when operating and I'm told that was because they have to slightly overcharge the system to get the same cooling power, so the compressor complains. Also, I don't think the AC is as efficient as it used to be before the switch. Needless to say I switched mechanics. See what others say, but that's my two euro's worth.
