Not that the schmuck who did your brakes had anything

to do with it...but often when brakes are done the 'technician' uses the master cylinder to bleed the brake system...and pushes the pedal all the way to the floor when bleeding the system. The little rubber seals in the mastercylinder on the piston then go past their normal operating range into an often corroded/cruddy/abrasive area in the master cylinder. They get abraded or torn and often lead to failure.
But just try to get it covered under warranty by the guy who did your car...unless you happened to see the schmuck bleed your brakes using the brake pedal and hit the floor!
That being said, maybe the master cylinder is just old or you got a bad batch of brake fluid. IMHO Castrol LMA DOT4 is the worst thing you can put in an 87 Saab 900t master cylinder because I destroyed the seals on the OEM cylinder and at least one replacement within 6 months of flushing with the Castrol stuff. I now use ATE Blue or amber brake fluid (the Castrol doesn't seem to have harmed my brother in law's 87 volvo so go figure) and I've always bled my brakes using a mity vac or lately a pressure bleeder.
So go buy a new m/c and they can generally be installed in about an hour, including bleeding the brakes, if you have a pressure bleeder and some jackstands. I bench bleed the m/c after it's installed (but my arms are long enough to cover the two m/c output holes while I pump the brake pedal 'lightly!' and then attach the brake lines. I then bleed the entire system (it probably needed flushing anyway with the bad m/c).
