Ignition Lock Installation - Key Detector Wire?

I am replacing my ignition lock cylinder in my '87 900s and cannot get the new cylinder completely into the hole. I removed the old cylinder by drilling it out and removing the pin that holds it in.
At the bottom of the hole is the "keyed" or "tabbed" wheel that the slot on the lock cyliner engages to start the car. There is a heavy wire coming straight out of the top/center of the wheel that prevents the lock cylinder from sitting on top of it and eventually clicking down into its permanent position. This wire can be pulled up about a 1/2 inch and pushed back down, but not far enough to get it out of the way. If this wire wasn't there, the lock cylinder with its slotted bottom would fit over the wheel. However, if this wire is the "key in the lock buzzer" detector, then I don't want to remove it. Also, I am concerned that removing it may ground out the ignition.
So, before I remove those three funny nuts and take the whole assembly apart. I want to know how to install the ignition lock cylinder over that heavy wire or by removing it. Can anyone help? Thanks!
