Yes, the ingredients within any brake cleaner will do the job just fine. What I'm curious about is how the clutch was "soiled" by the blown transmission in the first place. I can see the physical layout of the clutch and tranny in my head right now, but can't see how the one would damage your clutch in the manner you describe. The only thing I can see is something happening to the primary gear chain/sprocket set up where the entire housing which holds the clutch slave cylinder shatters, then oil is blown out that way. Must have been a massive "gink" sound, followed by a sudden stop. Then lots of smoke.
