Alright, now the picture is clear as to how your tranny died. You did everything you possibly could to encourage it along! Your tale of rallying on a gravel road with periods of bottoming out (that would have been the point at which I pull over and look for damage) pretty much tells the whole story. As for how the metal shavings got scattered along your clutch - there could very well be considerable warpage of that entire front end (engine, clutch, tranny). Enough to open up a seam under certain accelerating or cornering conditions for the period of time you drove it, causing oil to fly out. If you haven't looked at it in many months, there may have been lots of oil along the clutch too, which has since dried up.
