Thanks for realizing my stupidity... that peg is exactly what i was using to set the timing. I'll only take 1/2 the stupidity credit because a friend was helping me, i told him the number is 14 to look for, and when he saw the peg he said, "This is it." (but then again, i listened to him, because he knows more than i do!) I also thought afterwards how smart it was for Saab to 'mark' the timing spot like that.

Well, the numbers are still readable, which is how i knew approximately how far to turn the distributor to get it back to the point before i messed with it.

I'm pretty sure the correct marking for an '86 900s is 14, and right now it's pretty close to that, AND the high idle is back (along with some power when i hit the gas pedal).

I"m really at wits end, and although i many feel differently in the morning, i think i may just take the car to the mechanic tomorrow. How much could he charge to find the cause for the high idle and make whatever adjustments are necessary? One hour labor, two? Anybody wanna take a guess?

Is this work that should be done at a Saab specialist only? Anybody know of anyone in Northern NJ?
