Clutch slipping is the opposite problem... Yours sounds like it won't fully DISengage, then the syncromesh won't let you shift into gear.

If any of the pivot points at the pedal are really worn, it's like you're not pushing the pedal in far enough. That's easy to check visually if you don't mind crawling down there for a look.

Another think that's easy to check is the flexible hose near the clutch slave cylinder. Have somebody press the clutch pedal while you watch that hose. If the hose is bad, it could just swell up like a balloon (or leak) instead of disengaging the clutch.

If you can pump the pedal a few times, then shift with the engine running, its almost certainly hydraulic. One possibility is air in the system, if so you need to bleed the clutch. If you've got to this point without finding somethink broken, then I'd bleed the clutch.

Another possibility is leaky master cylinder piston seal. The seal on the piston shaft is OK so fluid doesn't actually leak OUT, it just bypasses the piston. When this happens to your brakes, the pedal just slowly sinks to the floor while you're stopped. Could be corrosion in the cylinder bore instead of a smooth surface.

If your slave cylinder leaks, it'll catch in the bellhousing, & leak from a vent hole underneath the flywheel. Keep an eye on your brake fluid reservoir so you don't run out of fluid.

As a last resort, you could remove the plastic bellhousing / clutch cover. Then you can watch the clutch working.
