The low pressure switch has nothing to do with cycling

The anti-frost thermostat cuts out the compressor when the evaporator reaches 35 deg F. This keeps the condensate in the evaporator from freezing. It then kicks the compressor back in when the evaporator temp reaches 41 deg F. This is what is meant to cycle the system, not the low pressure switch. The low pressure switch cuts out the compressor at 40 psi. This switch is located on the receiver/dryer which is on the high pressure side, after the condensor, so in liquid state. No chance this switch will drop out on a system in operation unless there is not enough refrigerant in the system to build pressure. This also means that if the ambient temp is below approximately 44 deg F the system will not operate because the pressure will be too low.
