Can a non-techie like me learn to fix my own Saab?

I have always wanted to learn how to fix my own cars, but I have assumed that I lacked the mechanical/technical brain necessary to do so. Recently, however, I have oddly been tempted to buy the Bentley Saab manual (I own a '91 900) to see if I could swing it. I'm afraid it'll be a waste of time, though, as I'll get scared away by all the new language that the writers will assume that I understand, when I don't. For example, I can't even figure out how to repair my freaky brake lights/turn signal lights by looking at the brief repair explanation in the FAQ section of this site. Printed circuit? Ground wire? Chassis ground? What the heck is all that?? Reading the posts on the BB for the last month, though, I have found there seem to be a lot of DIY mechanics out there who learned about cars by working on their Saabs. Are there truly a lot of you out there? Did you have similar reservations before you took the plunge? Are there some of you out there who had absolutely ZERO knowledge of the function of your car and then you got a Bentley manual (or something like it), read it carefully, and then started putting in your own fuel filters and water pumps and oxygen sensors yourself? If so, I'd really like to hear about it. I want to know if there's hope for a sap like me. Rick
