Like Trev, I think its the master.
If the slave leaked, you'd lose brake fluid inventory from the reservoir. Plus, it would leak & you'd get a puddle on the ground. (First there'd be a puddle in the bellhousing where you don't see it.)
The master cylinder can leak past the piston seal, but the shaft seal is still good. Then you never leak any fluid on the ground or onto your feet.
The brake master can fail the same way... While you're stopped at a light, the brake pedal slowly sinks to the floor, but fluid doesn't leak out.
