We have rebuilt 4 SAAB 900 A/Cs this year and they all run great. And we don't pull a vacumm. It is unnecessary and just a cost to the DIYr(we have one somewhere) that isn't needed. So here; for the last time, I will state the physical facts. When you rebuild a system and close it, there is some air present in the system. Compressed 134 is heavier than AIR. So when you add the can of oil and 1 or 2 cans of 134 you turn them upside down and wait for the bottom fitting to get cold(compressor running-oil first). The compressed 134 is in fluid form and rolls from the can into the system. Now here is the neat thing. What is left in the can????? Well lets see hummmh the 134 leaves the can and displaces air in the system. Where does the air go??? That's right, into the can. That's why you don't need to put a vacumm on the system prior. To test this add a can and then close the valve on the can. Disconnect it and then open the valve. Out comes compressed air.
