I have a non-turbo so it might not matter so much. After using regular oil for so long, I was afraid of seal leaks upon changing to synthetics. Recently, I gone the opposite direction, changing from Castrol GTX to cheaper Mobil Drive Clean (ordinary motor oil). My feeling was that since I change the oil often, the cheaper oil doesn't matter (while still staying away from no name brands).

I do pour about 12 oz. of oil into the filter when changing the filter to avoid a dry engine on startup. I used to use the large SAAB or Mann filters but when they became harder to find I switched to AC Delco. Lots of people are wary of the cheap cardboard Frams.
