The resistance to heat transfer in this case is due to the film coefficient. This is basically a function of the thickness of the layer of oil that moves only very slowly or not at all right at the hot surface, plus any fouling that has occurred (the actual equation is more complex of course). Synthetics transfer heat better because they resist breakdown from heat better (less fouling) and they have better viscosity properties so they do not build up as thick a film of non-moving oil. I would ALWAYS use a full-synthetic oil in a turbo-equipped automobile.
