Nate,
I bought a 1986 900S 16v, non-turbo back in '98. The pinion bearings were making noise when I bought it, but I was able to drive it for about 2 years like that. When it came time to do a rebuild,(I lost 5th gear the day before my wedding!) I found a guy right here on Saabnet. He was out of Pittsburg, and he wanted $700 to rebuild the tranny! I had a mechanic pull it for me, put it on a skid and UPSed it to Pittsburg. He had it back to me in a week, and he paid the return shipping!(all for $700!!!) My mechanic took it out, and put it back in for about $600. So, for about $1300 I was back in business! He did a great job on the rebuild, and I'd use him again if I could remember who he was! Someone else may know him, and may have used him in the past. I found him in the classifieds, so he may still advertise there. It's worth a try. Sorry I can't remember his name!
