good call on the deck, great brand & great sound especially compared with OEM!!!! 6x9's can sound great & will cost about what a similar sounding 5.25 will sound, except the 6x9's will be easier to mount properly! I personally do not like the idea of the deck lid install because the speakers are so visible, theft is more likely I feel. Also it is a lot harder to remove the hatch & haul stuff with wires connecting the speaker to the car.
Personally I prefer the sound coming from the front of the car. I would suggest getting a really good set of dash speakers as well as the rears. If a sub is still needed, you can add a single or pair of 6.5's under the seats in a small sealed box. You would need a amp with x-over to run the speakers but that can be done for cheap!
A while back I had a 4 in component set with 6.5's as subs under the seats & the sond was great!
