Do you have any idea about its previous maintenance history? Poor maintenance habits & cheap oil can combine to build up a lot of burned-on deposits in both the engine & the turbo. Oils today are much improved over oils of even a few years ago. Stick with something rated API-SL/ILSAC GF-3 & you'll be A-OK. However, if it were MY car...

I'd switch it over to either Mobil's Delvac 1 full synthetic 5W-40 diesel oil or Mobil 1 full synthetic 15W-50 at the next change. Why these two? (Glad you asked! Pull up a chair...) The Delvac 1 5W-40 is a heavily detergent oil (to combat the nastiness created by diesel fuel combustion), & so will help clear out crud left by previous poor habits. It also has lot of anti-wear additives. I'd run it for at least three intervals of 10k mi each, & then decide if I wanted to keep using it or not. Problem is, it can be hard find in regular retail outlets. (In the US, truck stops seem to be the best place to get it.)

OK, so why Mobile 1 15W-50 instead of (my personal favorite) Mobile 1 0W-40? For two reasons:
1) the 15W-50 is advertised as having a better anti-wear package than the other Mobile 1's, & with the age of your engine it wouldn't hurt to have that,
2) your higher mileage engine MAY consume a lot more of a 0W wt oil thru worn engine components & leaks.
Again, use it for 10k mi drain intervals.

I bought my '90 900 four yrs ago with 113k mi on it. At 120k I switched it over to synthetic & jumped to 10k intervals. Last month I switched from 10W-30 to M1 15W-50, & have had no starting problems down to 15*F (it was 15*F nearly every night for a week around Halloween). Any premium synthetic will give you better engine protection at the end of 10k miles than a conventional oil will give you after 1k.

Besides that, get some copper washers & a torque wrench for the oil drain plug. I'd also run a can of BG-44K in the gas tank every 20k-30k mi, & go with either the Purolator Pure One, Mobile 1, or ACDelco "Made in England" oil filters (they're the ones Saab now uses). You're set!
