The other guys insurane, State Farm, gave me $6500 for my 92 900 base with 85,000. I bought a 91 turbo convert with 100,00 for 5k, and paid off a credit card with the rest.
However, I'm a lawyer and they knew it. I didn't press it or mention it, but their insured sure did. He was a lawyer too, and he admitted liability from the get go.
My point: I'd hate to think of what would have happened if I were not a lawyer (an insurance awyer none the less) and if the guy who hit me either didn't have insurance or denied liability.
In short, keep your insurance. Its cheap (here in Louisiana I pay $250/month for my Saab and my wife's 03 Bug), and can save you a MAJOR PITA if the unthinkable happens.
Good luck,
TM
