When I say maintenance I mean something other than oil/coolant changes or normal pad replacement.
1. 92 900 base: 14 months, but then there was hell to pay. At the time it was killed (by a Honda Accord that sustained a broken bumper cover) it needed: both outer CV joints, new rack, tie rod ends and ball joints.
2. 88 900t: it never ran right. Ever. Everytime I would fix one thing something else broke the very next day. No exageration. Fixed all vac leaks, then the hall effect sensor died. Rebuilt the distrib w/ new Hall effect sensor, the water pump went. Fixed the water pump, the a/c compressor seized. never fixed the compressor, but then the second gear synchro went.
3. 86 900s: 8 months to a year of no maintenance.
4. 84 900t 4 door: 5 months.
5. 81 900t 8 valve: 2 months, max. Something was always wrong. Always.
Yes, I agree that Hondas are better cars than the c900 in terms of reliability. But I compare my c900 to Hondas of the same vintage and am shocked at the horriable interior and exterior styling! I findmy aunts 92 Accord handeled well and accelerated well. Although it does not feel as substantial (read solid) as the c900, it is much more quite at speed. One of these days I'm going to give in to practicality and just get a Japanese car. The I35 looks good.
