Machine flywheel or not for clutch change?

Car is a 91 900 NA. Flushed brake fluid during 155k service and ended up with a leak in my slave a couple of weeks later. Clutch had been in there for 85k miles so I figured I would do the whole thing. Got the kit 87-81-346, which is supposed to be the heavy duty upgrade. Pulled everything out last Saturday and it was a piece of cake with all the info from this site and the different links. The current clutch still looks in great shape but I will replace it. Now here is the question: the flywheel looks perfect without any scratches so I went to my mechanic this morning and he did not see the need for machining, just to clean it up. Even with the radius of the new clutch being greater than the current one, therefore contacting a surface that did not see contact before. Is he right or is there an advantage to machining?
By the way, I have done a lot of reading on making this special tool for the RMS. All for nothing, my mechanic is letting me borrow his tool over the long weekend. Would have been a fun challenge but now I know it will be done perfectly.
