Hehehe....I have a 66 GS if you recall....
I first drove an 88 SPG two years ago. I bought it immediately. It's a blast!
It takes upto two seconds for full boost to come on after the throttle is floored. Full throttle in first or second gear should break the tires loose, third and fourth will give a nice pull, not like a 455, maybe almost like your 350. It sounds like the car you tested needs some work. I have seen turbos advertised in the Philly area in the $1500 range. $3000 for a decent SPG could still be a good buy, depending on condition.
