The problem on front removal is that many have self-locking nuts that just turn the shaft when you try to remove the nut. You can cut the cover down below and grab the shaft with a vice grip. Or you can cut the shaft with a sawzall or hack saw. Snapping the shaft takes about 5 seconds, crude but effective. I'm always amazed at people's resistance to use brute force, when it's sometimes the easiest approach.
The special socket makes self-locking nut installation easy on the driver's side, if you don't have an air wrench.
