unless your will have two amps or a big one. I did mine over time because it can get expensive. $3500.00 invested to date. I went with the 900 CCA 1125 CA Optima yellow top deep cycle batt that you can drain heavily and recharge with no problems. It was like $200.00. You can get a Saab 9000 alternator at wreck yard and have it rebuilt. You may be able to get it rebuilt to more than 115 amps which I think I have heard being done. After the the rebuild with new regulator you just switch the pulley with your 900 on and bolt it in your car.
To your question I was draining my old batt more than it could handle and it would die. The yellow top also charges faster and I think you can drain it like 80% and recharge with no problems. The batt can handle the extra draw when you have a lot of stuff on and you really crank it. It will also help with cold starts. I was killing the reg batts so this deep cycle Optima has been working great for 5 months now.
Best, KB.
