Does the battery warning light come on when you turn the key to the RUN position? I wonder if they put the right bulb in that spot. Because it's part of the charging system, the bulb has a specific resistance that's different than the other warning lights. If they did put the wrong one in, it would cause the alternator to overcharge the battery and maybe the higher voltage may have blown the bulbs that you're talking about.
Check your fuses. Looking at the Bentley wiring diagrams, 20 goes to the radio, 7 goes to the alternator excitation circuit, and check the rest of them. Without being able to check the battery and the voltage coming out of the alternator test the circuits, it's a shot in the dark.
This place does sound a bit on the seedy side.
Your best bet is probably S&J (that's the one I was trying to remember). They've been around a long time and have a good reputation.
