I was actually talking about the check-valve built into the small diameter hosing that comes out of the top of the black plastic fitting that's mounted in the top of the crankcase. Most people refer to that small dime-sized thing as the PCV valve (though it really isn't).
I disconnected the small diameter hosing from the clear plastic fitting in the intake manifold, and blew into that. There was no resistance, and I could hear my breath in the big plastic induction tube in front of the engine (actually, where the big PCV hosing goes into the metal fitting that's inserted into this induction tube). I thought I should not be able to blow air into it since it really is a one-way valve. This is how it is on my '98 9000CSE, which has the same PCV set-up as this car.
I noticed there is some oil seeping out of the bottom of the distributor cap. not much, but it is there. When I opened it up, I could see a very small amount of oil in the bottom of the inside of the distributor. Could this check-valve in the small diameter PCV hosing be shot? Does it become a one-way valve ONLY under pressure (while the engine is running and under load)?
Also, that metal connector I mentioned above where the big PCV hose goes to that's mounted in the big induction tube in the front of the engine: it's loose where it goes into the big tube, and I can see some oil wetness all around the base of the connector. Is there a fix for this, or do I need a new seal/grommet at the bottom of this connector? Is that something I can purchase?
TIA
Joe
