with the quality of factory stereos getting so much better, I can only assume the market for replacement stereos is dominated by the street racer crowd. no way else to explain why they put out such eyesores that would compliment almost NO cars interior.
when I first replaced the Saab/Clarion, I took apart the faceplate of the Sony I had - removed the buttons and masked the display window, then sprayed it black. After reassembly, it looked far better than the silver it started out as.
When replacing the Sony, as previously suggested, SOME Blaupunkts had an all black look, the Alpines are black with big green buttons (not bad) - but I went with the "black chrome" of the Panassonic. If you spray the silver bezel black (simple as its a separate piece that snaps in) the black chrome looks far more black than chrome (looks like just gloss black) and it matches quite well.
