The circlip in Jon's photo was off and the coupling slid forward. I was SO happy! I put all back together thinking that all would be well, but it seems that the shifter finds where the gears should be but there is no "snick" INTO the gear and it doesnt hold it there as it normally would. It just kinda slides out of the spot where the gear should be. I was thinking that you meant the rear cover and I took that off. There is a spring thingey there...does the rear cover have to be secured to push on that spring thingey to hold the shifter in the gears? The battery is dead and it is getting late so I will attempt more tomorrow. I did find a small chunk of metal and some shavings on the drainplug, but I have never had it off before so I don't know whether this is new or old. I assume that one is to expect SOME metal shavings on the plug? Thanks so much! I just love the internet! Brian
