My latest (of 11) Saab is a red '90 SPG, from California - no rust, everything works right, very nice "Summer Driver". I live in Maine (salt/sand/chemicals on roads). Similar situation to yours.

In the fall, the first time salt is put down anywhere around me I store the SPG (not fancy storage - prepared and covered in my driveway). It stays there all winter.

In the spring, I don't take it out until Mother Nature has done a few "wash jobs" on the salty/sandy roads.

I'm old, it's my summer fun car (what a great car!), I paid a lot of $$$ for it, and I plan to hopefully enjoy it for several years (or retain its value til I sell it).

The way I figure it, once the salting is started in the fall, even if it only rains, if I drive in it I will be depositing Salt Water in/under the car. Don't want that! In the spring, the salty stuff is still on the roads until the rains wash the salt away thoroughly, so I wait, although it's hard to be patient.

To me, your '87 Convertible with an Airflow Kit, nice top and no rust is much too nice/unusual to drive in salty road conditions, IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. Yes, the body is going to be trashed by driving after the salt comes, or before the salt is gone. Not certain about the top, but conditions can't be good for it.

Well, yes - it is a great Ski-Mobile, is a good car on the winter roads, and I'll bet it's fun to drive! Hope you can avoid the salty conditions. My $ .02 worth - please don't take it the wrong way.
