The cruise control system has to get its vaccuum from somewhere, so it taps into the same area as all other vaccuum-assisted components do.

Any leak in the vaccuum system WILL affect boost and/or idle. Vaccuum is produced by the engine, so it goes without saying that if there is a leak present, no matter where it is, it will affect driveability.

Take a look at how the lines are routed and you will see it shares a plastic t-connector with another line on the intake manifold. Try disconnecting that line and watch what happens. That's the same as a leak in the system, only to a greater extent.

This explains why whenever there is a posting about low- or no boost, the first thing to check is the cruise control system, looking for proper operation and/or leaks. And this system travels all the way under the dashboard in the cabin.

There is a link to follow when diagnosing the cc system and/or low- or no- boost conditions. I forget the name of it, but it's in the archives here as well as the FAQ board.
