The answers:
1. Like I said, the cruise control electronics will absolutely affect your boost situation. if you're getting low boost, you NEED to go through the APC troubleshooting FAQ. Don't waste time digging around til you know that it's the APC or something else. My $0.02.
2. You can remove the system further by removing all the vacuum lines connected to the pump, the pump itself, the pressure switch on the fender wall, the pressure/electric switches on the brake & clutch pedal, the cruise control "ECU" under the dash, a fuse, a relay, and the vacuum diaphragm and chain connected to the accelerator pedal. If you remove the cruise control entirely, you will need to connect a jumper wire across the two pins of the connector that goes to the pressure/electric switches on the brake & clutch pedals. If you don't you'll get base boost. I do not recall off the top of my head if you also need to jumper the wires on the pressure switch on the fender, but I don't think you do. I'm 99% sure.
