One Car - two keys; That ain't right, is it?

I bought a 900 convertible a few weeks ago and it has a key for the ignition and a separate for the doors/trunk. As I recall form my earlier Saab days (1986), these cars only used one key for both the doors and the ignition. Does this mean that the ignition switch has been changed out? and if so, what can be done to correct this so only one key is required for both functions. What would the expected cost be to make the correction and is it a DIY type job that I could do myself?
Thanks,
Don B.
