In re: 1991 900 turbo convertible:

Alarm question:
The guy who sold me the car said he had the battery replaced recently (it is indeed new), and that the alarm "reset" itself to be in "quiet mode." After eyeballing the manual, I saw nothing about "quiet mode." Basically, I guess it's supposed to chirp when you set the alarm on/off via the key fob thingy, but it does not chirp. The little red light on the dash starts blinking when turned on, but no chirp. And I assume that if the alarm were to sound, it would also be silent.
So.... is there such a thing as this so-called "quiet mode", or was I fed a line? If there is such a thing - how do I get it into non-quiet mode? Again, the owners manual said nothing about this...

Stereo speaker question:
Bought some new speakers today, to replace the stock speakers (previous owner installed a nice Sony head and 10-disc changer, and the factory speakers don't do it justice).

On advice from my local car audio shop, I picked up some thin 4" Alpine speakers for the front dash, which they claim will fit. We shall see.
I assume installation of front dash speakers to be fairly straight-forward - just remove the screws, lift up, and swap them out.
Or not??

For the "rear" (mounted in the rear seat side panels - where the reading lights are), I'm not so sure. Got Alpine 5 1/2" speakers, which seem to be the right size.
Will I need a panel tool, or can I safely, and slowly/carefully, pry the panel off with something else?
Again - here I am assuming - that the panel needs to come off to do this - maybe more or less involved than what I'm assuming...
Last thing I need is to break off some clip or fastener and be surprised it was there to begin with...

Many thanks,
-Daniel, Portland OR
