Your front speakers should go in easily. Sometimes the screws that hold down the speaker panel in the dash can be difficult to remove. I think they are torx on your car. The older ones have phillips head screws.
As for the alarm, I don't know. Do you know for sure that it works or just you just assume that it does due to the blinking red light? Maybe you should try to set it off to test it. There should be a loudspeaker mounted inside the engine compartment near the front passenger side. This is for the alarm siren. If you're not getting any "chirp" and the alarm won't sound either it may be the case that the wire has been disconnected.
I had an '89 convertible once but I don't remember much about the rear speakers except that I thought they sounded good and that they were Pioneers. I don't know if they were stock or not.
