Clutch bleeding woes

Dear Saabites:
Here is a tale of my '85 900S. The clutch hose broke, so I installed a new one with plumber's tape to seal the threads. Then the woes began ... I bleed the system using vacuum on the slave and pressure on the master. I would get partial clutch but then it would weaken. I bled the system again and again. Now I'm not getting any clutch at all ... the master seems to be working in that it pumps fluid, but the slave isn't giving action. HELP is MUCH APPRECIATED. A million thanks to all you wonderful Saab people.
Sincerely
KevinO
