I'll add my own experience bleeding a clutch from a couple of weeks ago.
I used the poor man's pressure bleeder (use the search to look up that phrase.) It's not nearly as good as Gorper's (which is very good - I'll make one some day) but it's really, really cheap.
I found that I got to a certain point where no more bubbles were coming out, but it still wouldn't develop any resistance. I pumped it about 20 times until I got good resistance. My guess is that the seals finally seated against bore of the cylinder. So, instead of using nearly a quart of brake fluid for the process, I just used a pint.
I agree with Gorper - ditch the teflon tape.
But here's another fly in the ointment (or, if you prefer - dog in the manger, B-52 in the pantry, Elvis impersonator in the box of Cheerios, etc.) - it's easily possible that you're washing out all of the crud that supplements the seals in your master cylinder. BTDT. You may be in the market for a master cylinder rebuild kit in the very near future.
