Ideally, you want to have to torque wrench to tighten the bolts. First tighten to 60 lb-ft, then tighten to 80 lb-ft. You want the wheels to be drawn onto the hub evenly so you don't get warpage of the brake disks. Some guys like to tighten them in 3 progressive steps.
To take them off, I bought a 24", 1/2" drive breaker bar from Harbor Freight Tools and a 19-mm impact socket. You can also use 18" breaker bars, but I wouldn't go any shorter than that.
If your wheels have been on for a long time and were put on by Joe Schmo Tires, you may need to stand on the breaker bar to loosen the lug bolts.
