RS,
My advice would be either rebuild the whole engine at this point or leave it alone. By rebuild I mean finding a set of oversized pistons and rings and boring out the block.
Honing and re-ringing will buy you MAYBE 20k miles at the most in my experience. Why? Because by that time, the ring lands on the pistons are hammered and there's too much clearance. The extra skirt clearance from honing, plus the extra clearance in the ring lands will cause a broken ring at worst or too much leakage at best. If you car is a turbo, you'll be even more disappointed at the results.
Were it my car, I'd either a. Rebuild the whole shebang including every seal and every wearing surface, then run it for another 150k. b. Find a lower mileage motor that runs well and swap that in. c. If the engine runs well presently and the oil pressure is good, leave everything alone including the bearings and run it til it's good and worn. THEN rebuild it.
It's best to rebuild an engine when it's just worn and shows no other traits like rod knock or really low oil pressure. Then you're facing replacing parts like rods or a crank that usually get a refurbishing. Costs really get out of hand at that point.
