I dont understand how it could possibly be working it's way out. It would take an amazing amount of linear force to break one.
Anyway you could try a heavier clip (might be hard to find in metric size, but there is a big tolerence there, you may be able to use an inch size). The heavier clip is thicker in diameter, not width. There are also Spirolox rings that make at least 1 wrap all the way around the ID.
By wiring the holes together, you are taking the tension off the OD of the ring, which is holding it in place. It would make more sense to put a spacer to force the ears apart, but that would not be possible
A good industrial bearing house SHOULD be able to help with this type of information, however they won't bother for such a small sale. Unfortunatly, the folks that can help you most are working in other jobs, as most of the mfg customers have left this country.
