Ahh.. thanks! We have indeed found the top of the pump.. jumpering it is a good idea.

OK, this is cool... i did not know there was a feeder pump.. where is it located? Chances are high that this car often runs with very low tank.. being that it was bought for $500. You know what i mean. It's a nice car though.

Indeed, air, fuel and spark will make fire.... i'll check it out.

Indeed, this may be the case... someone else (Andy?) mentioned water in the fuel... which could/would happen with an often-empty tank and the cold weather we've had... In any case, i WILL be replacing the filter.
Yes, this has been a big help, particularly the clue about the "feeder" pump..
