AMM failure modes Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Wed, 23 Feb 2005 07:03:44 In Reply to: Re: Air Mass Meter symptoms, kyle morley, Wed, 23 Feb 2005 06:39:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The most common fault for the AMM is corrosion on the circuit board. Rarely, if ever, does the wire break. This corrosion can cause some pretty flaky operation, and may show up only when cold, or only when warm. It's possible that you have a bad solder joint on the board, and when the AMM gets warm (from underhood temps), it closes up and all is OK.
The lack of rev capability aims straight at the AMM - that's a classic symptom.
As to swapping - from what I can tell, you take a -013 AMM. Check out the chart at:
http://homepage.mac.com/ljwest/test/LHparts.html
You'll see that the -013 fits most 88-91 900, and some 88-91 9000 (L means turbo; i means non-turbo; 202 is the 2 liter 16 valve engine).
Worse comes to worse, bite the bullet and get another AMM. Try the sponsors on this BB. eEuroparts sells one for $250 (after core charge), others may have it a bit cheaper. I'd stay with a rebuilt; they're cheaper and work just as well, in my experience.
